The mother of the Emir of Kano, Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero, is dead. She was aged 86.
Reports just received says she died today, Saturday morning at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt. The octageran is said to have been sick for some time.
Hajiya Maryam is the mother of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as well as the mother of the current Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero.
A staff of the Kano Emirate Council Secretariat, Awaisu Sanusi told newsmen that her burial arrangement including the date and time would be communicated in due course.
Reports also say that late Hajiya Maryam was the wife of late Emir Ado Bayero and a princess of Ilorin Emirate in Kwara State.

In another development, President Muhammadu Buhari is said to have sent his condolences to the family of the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello over the death of their daughter, Aishatu Ahmadu Bello.
Madam Aishatu was the widow of the late Marafan Sokoto, Ahmad Danbaba. She died on Friday, yesterday at the age of 75.
While announcing the sad development, her son, Hassan Danbaba told newsmen that the mother died at a Dubai hospital after a brief illness.

The president described Bello as a woman who “lived a worthy and humble life and was an embodiment of discipline and fine character.”
