Nigerian-born Kemi Badenoch, seeking to succeed Boris Johnson as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), has been eliminated from the race.
The former Equalities Minister is adjudged to have ran an excellent campaign and was hailed for her leadership and honest politics which helped her perform considerably better than anticipated.
The elimination of Nigeria’s Badenoch from the race now leaves only 3 candidates, Penny Mordaunt, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak to convince Members of Parliament they deserve a spot in the final 2 ahead of the next round of voting Wednesday afternoon.
Rishi Sunak secured the highest votes with 118, followed by Penny Mordaunt with 92 votes and the foreign secretary, Liz Truss, who received 86 on the fourth ballot, removing Badenoch from the race after scoring 59 votes.
Mordaunt and Truss are currently vying for the coveted second position, which will be determined by members of parliament on Wednesday afternoon.
During one of her campaigns, the 42-year-old, who grew up in Nigeria, said she’s aware of what happens when Nigerian politicians are for themselves and use public money as their private piggy bank.
According to Badenoch, Nigerian politicians promise the earth and pollute not just the air but the whole political atmosphere with their failures to serve others.
She added that running to become the Prime Minister at 42 years is by definition ambitious because she’s free to be who she wants to be in the country unlike in Nigeria.
