Reports just received say that a fight between boxer Chukwuemeka Igboanugo, who was representing Imo State, and Prince Gaby Amagor from Anambra in the 86kg category was stopped after the former slumped.
The incident occurred during the ongoing National Sports Festival.
The Imo indigene reportedly lost the fight in a knockout stage against his opponent who was said to have given him a punch in the chin and the referee had to stop the fight when he (Igboanugo) failed to recover.
“He was immediately taken out of the ring for medical treatment before being rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead,” a boxing official, who spoke on conditions of anonymity told reporters.
