A co-author of the Nigerian National Anthem, Prof Babatunde Ogunnaike is reported dead.
The Chemical Engineer and Statistician died at the age of 65.
A native of Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, the co-author was one of the 5 Nigerian citizens whose words and phrases were combined to form the nation’s anthem.
The others were: John A. Ilechukwu, Eme Etim Akpan, Sota Omoigui, and P.O. Aderibigbe.
Ogunnaike’s death was confirmed to newsmen on Tuesday by notable Nigerian educationist and publisher, Gbenro Adegbola.
Babatunde Ayodeji Ogunnaike was born March 26, 1956. He was an American chemical engineer of Nigerian descent and the William L. Friend Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University Of Delaware (UD)
He was the former Dean of UD’s College of Engineering. He passed away on February 20, 2022 after a long battle with cancer.
