The National Union of Petroleum and Gas Workers (NUPENG) has announced the suspension of the nationwide strike planned by its affiliate members, the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD).
The PTD had planned to embark on a nationwide strike with effect from Monday over the state of the bad highways across the country among other issues.
The South West Zonal Chairman of NUPENG, Tayo Aboyeji said that the strike was suspended because of Federal Government’s intervention.
He added that the PTD suspended the strike to enable them meet with the Federal Government to iron out the issues in contention.
According to Aboyeji, “The leadership of the union, after a brief meeting with representatives of government decided to suspend the strike in the interest of the nation.
“The meeting with the government continues during the week with the assurance that the union grievances will be positively addressed.”
Aboyeji had, last week announced that the tanker drivers would withdraw their services nationwide due to members lives and properties that have been lost as a result of bad roads
He said in the latest announcement that the Federal Government had been given a notice to avert the strike billed to commence on Monday.
He added that the present administration would not do anything until NUPENG commences strike.
