Nigerian-born Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been appointed as Director-General for a second term for the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The cheery news was made known in a post via its X handle on Friday.
WTO said Okonjo’s reappointment will take effect on September 1, 2025.
The post reads, “The General Council has appointed Director-General @NOIweala for a second term, effective 1 September 2025. More details to follow.”
WTO had recently confirmed that Okonjo-Iweala, the current director-general, is the sole candidate for the position as her first term nears its conclusion.
According to a statement released by the WTO, Okonjo-Iweala expressed her willingness to serve a second four-year term on September 16.
