The former Governor of Abia State and lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has won the senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kalu, who is the current chief whip of the 9th Senate polled 777 votes to emerge unopposed after Barr Fabian Nwankwo stepped down from the race.
Returning officer for the senatorial primary election, Chief Paul Onwuka, declared him Uzor Kalu winner in Ebem Ohafia the venue of the election on Saturday.
In his acceptance speech, the politician dedicated his victory to the people of the district and promised to attract more projects to their communities.
The lawmaker commended Barr. Nwankwo, for his decision to drop his ambition, says it is in the interest of the constituency.
