A former presidential aide to Olusegun Obasanjo, Akin Osuntokun has been named the new Director-General (DG) of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

Osuntokun is the choice of the party to replace Doyin Okupe who resigned as the director-general of the campaign council for the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Prior to his new position, Osuntokun was the Zonal Coordinator (South) of the campaign council, and a former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who served as Political Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and as Director of the Presidential campaign of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011.

Okupe resigned on his own accord last week after he was sentenced to jail by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court in Abuja on December 19, 2022, for violating the Money Laundering Act.

The court said Okupe was guilty of receiving over N200 million cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Okupe on that premise resigned on his own accord saying the interest of the party and its supporters worldwide is bigger than his own personal interest.
