The picture of former President Goodluck Jonathan was on Saturday sighted in the convention programme booklet of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite rumours of his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
A Fulani herders group had earlier purchased the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms of the APC for the former president.
Groups have been clamouring for the former president to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari for a one-term tenure.
Though the former president has not confirmed his alleged defection to the APC, his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze in a statement released in January stated that Jonathan’s planned defection to the APC did not happen.
According to Eze, “Defection issue and presidential ambition are all rumours. It has no foundation. We do not want to be reacting to such (things) again. We have issued statements on this before.”
The picture of Jonathan emerged in the booklet of the PDP at the time the former President met with the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu, and President Buhari’s influential nephew, Mamman Daura.
PDP presidential primary election which is ongoing is expected to end with the election of a presidential candidate that would bring the party back to power
