Mercyland, a Church belonging to a popular cleric, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin has been gutted by fire.
The massive inferno broke out on Tuesday at the popular Delta Church located at Effurun-Sapele Road in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
A video clip trending on social media shows a raging fire in parts of the Church. Worshippers and passersby were seen running into the premises of the church, wailing as smoke filled the air.
It is unclear what caused the fire and firefighters were not on the ground to quench the fire as it raged.
The General Overseer of the Church, Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin, swiftly reacted to the fire incident, saying he was aware there would be an inferno in the church.
In a video clip shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Prophet Fufeyin allayed fears, saying that no life was lost during the incident.
According to him, the tragic incident was orchestrated by God, who earlier gave him an instruction to build a church auditorium.
Prophet Fufeyin added that God’s anger over his disobedience to the instruction may have led to the inferno that destroyed several properties in the church.
“If I was not expecting this incident before, I would have asked God questions. God told me this thing is coming.
“The Lord had told me, Go and build my house. Where you are using currently is not a church house, it is just a partner house,” he said.
The prophet stressed that his lackadaisical attitude towards the instructions angered God to destroy the auditorium, stating that he is now ready to build the church.
