The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, today, paid a surprise visit to the 12-year-old boy Debola Akin-Bright whose small intestine went missing after surgery.
According to the mother, the boy was previously admitted at a private hospital in Lagos after being diagnosed with a ruptured appendix.
The surgery went bad and after a second but unsuccessful procedure to correct the complications, his parents took him to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
His treatment at the tertiary health facility, according to his mother has drained all the resources of the family. She therefore cried out in a viral video to the governor to assist save her ailing child and give him the justice he deserves.
Akin-Bright’s mother believes his intestine was harvested.
On receiving the report, the state government in collaboration with LASUTH set up a panel of inquiry where a preliminary report exonerated the government hospital from allegations of the missing organ.
On Sunday afternoon, the governor surprised the young boy at the hospital where he promised to take charge of his entire medical care and expenses.
According to him, “I paid an unscheduled visit to Debola Akin-Bright at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). After listening to Debola’s mum and the medical officers in charge of his care, I gave him my word that I would not only take over his medical care and expenses, I would also ensure that everything is done to get him better, and back at home with his loved ones.”
