JUST IN ! Slain Chadian President’s Son Gen Mahamat Idriss Deby Selected as President

Son of Slain Chadian President, 37-year-old General Mahamat Idriss Deby has been selected by the country’s Military to succeed his father.

Late President Deby had ruled his country for over 30 years. He was commanding the Chadian Army against a major incursion by insurgents from Libya when he was fatally injured.

The militants had entered on election day, 11th of April from the north of Chad. Their object is said to be to put an end to Deby’s 30-years of power.

His son, General Mahamat Idriss Debby will now head the military council with immediate effect.

Army Spokesman, General Azem Bemandoa Agouna announced in a television broadcast that Deby “has just breathed his last breath defending the sovereign nation on the battlefield.”

68-year-old Deby is said to have ruled the country for 3 decades with an iron fist. He is said to be a key lay of the West’s anti-jihadist campaign in the largely troubled Sahel region.

By Monday, Chadian army had claimed a “great victory” in its battled against the rebels who arrived from Libya. It claimed that it had killed 300 of the insurgents while it lost 5 of its own during a gruelling 8-day combat.
