The authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have finally reacted to the arrest of one of its undergraduate students, Chidinma Ojukwu.
Chidinma was arrested on allegations of being the prime suspect in the murder of the CEO of Super TV, Usifo Ataga.
The Lagos State Police Command disclosed that she and Ataga had checked into an AirBnB serviced apartment in the Lekki area of Lagos. Usifo’s brutalised body was discovered the next day.
In his reaction, UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe said that the University authorities will follow due process in dealing with the accused undergraduate student.
Ogundipe made the position of the institution known on Wednesday during the 51st (2019) convocation ceremony of the school.
He added that indeed, Chidinma Ojukwu is a student of the university and they could not deny the fact.
According to him, “From records available to us, Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu is a student of the University of Lagos, who was born on December 12, 1999.
“From our records, she is from Abia State and her contact address is No 57 Akinwumi Street, Alaggomeji, Yaba, Lagos.
“Her next of kin is Mr Onoh Ojukwu, She is a student of this great university irrespective of wether she is a part-time or full-time student. Her matriculation number is 170912015.
“We cannot deny the fact that she is a student of the university.
“The university is handling the administrative aspect of the issue.”
On its part, the Lagos State Police Command says it will charge the accused to court on completion of the ongoing investigation.
The Police PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi told the Punch that, “We will take her to court when we finish the investigation; we are still investigating.”
