The United States (US) government has slammed visa ban on government officials disrupting the peace in Southern Cameroon.
The announcement is contained in a statement by the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
Blinken said that travel restrictions were the US sanction on those breaching the peace of the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.
He added that the restriction formed part of US commitment to ending the lingering violence in the region.
According to him, “The United States is committed to ending the continuing violence in Cameroon and to supporting the Cameroonian people.
“Starting today, we are imposing visa restrictions on those involved in undermining peace in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.”
Anglophone Cameroonian citizens have been protesting discrimination and dominance by the francophone especially in the courts and schools.
The protests came to a head when in 2017, Julius Rabe-led secessionist groups attempted to liberate the Southern Cameroon.
He declared the independence of Ambasonia which resulted in a crisis that claimed the lives of over 3,000 people with so many more displaced.
