Keniebi Okoko, Billionaire Business Man, PDP Governorship Aspirant Dies

News - Women's Perspective

Keniebi Okoko, Bayelsa billionaire and PDP governorship aspirant has died.

The 42-year old died in a private hospital in Lekki on Tuesday in the course of a liposuction surgery.

Reports say there was power outage during the procedure and sadly the hospital generator failed to start to enable the doctors continue the operation.

However, there are reports that his death certificate, signed by the Amethyst Health Care and Diagnostics Centre Limited, Lekki adduced the cause of death to localised death in the abdomen and breasts.

Keniebi Okoko’s death report signed by Dr Benedict Olusola has a different version as cause of death. The report reads in part that Okoko “died on the 15th of April 2020 and primary cause of death was primarily hypoxia and secondarily, cardiac arrest.”

It is uncertain if Dr Benedict personally managed Okoko’s condition. If he didn’t It is also not established if Okoko was managed by medical personnel who are specialists in his health condition. While death is an inevitable end to any biological being, it is not every medical doctor that can perform every kind of surgery.

Unfortunately, our health care systems are so stretched that Nigerians, out of desperation are left with no choice. They patronise every doctor without investigating their areas of specialisation more so if they have foreign experience.

Emergencies for regular health conditions have also been overtaken by the covid-19 pandemic, a disease that has overwhelmed the entire world particularly health care practitioners.

Nevertheless, Health.usnews.com profiles Dr. Benedict O. Olusola as “an emergency medicine physician in Desoto, Texas. He has been in practice for more than 20 years.

“Emergency medicine specialists diagnose and treat patients with life-threatening conditions like heart attack, drug overdose, shock, or massive bleeding.”
Meanwhile, friends, political and business associates have continued to mourn one of their own. Ijaw citizens in Lagos stormed the hospital to demand an explanation on the circumstances leading to the death of a promising leader, philanthropist and a man of his people.
Okoko was a protege of so many Ijaw political heavyweights including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Seriake Dickson, Ben Murray Bruce and Dakuku Peterside.
While expressing shock at the sudden demise of one of his own, Peterside said:
“Too many Ijaw persons, in the midst of wailing, were willing to help to ensure that a loving should like Keniebi is not put to shame.

“The 2nd observation is that all and sundry were not happy with the professional handling of the medical attention he got, leading to his death and are demanding that we must get to the root of the matter so persons whose professional negligence led to his avoidable death must be held to account for it.

“In Keniebi’s death, I have seen the outpouring of love and appreciation of impact living.

“May the should of my brother Keniebi rest in peace and may we continue rallying each other whenever the need arises”

Some Ijaw youth have begun to dig into the expertise of the lead surgeon and the team of health workers who handled Keniebi Okoko’s surgery. Questions to ask:
  1. How many such surgeries has he/she performed in his years of practice ?
  2. How many were successful ?
  3. What are his/her patient’s ratings after each procedure ?
  4. If he/she is an expatriate, why did he leave more lucrative climes to come over to Nigeria to practice ?
  5. Did he/she have any legal issues over any medical activity both in Nigeria or elsewhere ?
  6. What specific area of medical practice did he qualify in ?
  7. Has the family reverted to his previous place of practice to find out why he left ?

  1. his is quite unfortunate! May his soul rest in peace. But I’m shocked that this Benedict Olusola is still operating on people! He was banned from performing surgeries here in the U.S due to several cases of malpractice and for not being a licensed surgeon! The MD license he had was revoked in America! How do hospitals in Nigeria just allow any doctor to operate on their patients without proper background check? This is pure carelessness in the hand of a quack who is not licensed to perform surgery! So sad that this man just died in the hand of a greedy, desperate, untrained, and reckless quack who failed to ensure his patient gets enough oxygen during surgery. These are the US reject doctors who leave here and go to exploit unsuspecting people in Nigeria because of low standards there. The family should keep this quack behind bars

    1. Thanks Kevaj. I hope the family goes after the doctor. I guess Nigeria’s mentality of “anything foreign is good, no matter the standard” beclouded their sense of judgement and prevented them from running background checks on him.

Nonetheless, my job is done as a journalist. The rest is up to his friends and family to follow through with. He is well connected and his family should have the resources to press for further investigations. Do stay safe, friend and keep me busy with your views. Thanks so much
