The Acting Managing Director of the of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), Alwan Hassan who was kidnapped with several passengers of the ill-fated Abuja-Kaduna train has been sighted in a video with his abductors before he was set free.
Hassan was released on Wednesday to his family who have declined to reveal if any ransom was paid.
The terrorists stated in a video making the rounds of social media, that they decided to have mercy on the BOA MD in the spirit of the Ramadan season and his age.
Hassan, who was flanked by the heavily armed terrorists, also took a photo with them, confirming that the terrorists were releasing him on compassionate grounds.
On Monday, the 28th of March, the terrorists planted explosives believed to be IEDs on the rail track around Katari, Kaduna State which saw a Kaduna-bound train derail.
The train reportedly departed Abuja by about around 6:00 pm from the Idu train station but hit an explosive device about 30 minutes to Rigasa train station in Kaduna.
After the train was forced to stop, video shared by eyewitness on social media showed the bandits shooting sporadically, which resulted in the death of some of the train passengers.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation and Kaduna State Government have confirmed that there were 362 people on board
Unofficial reports indicate that the number was more than three hundred.
