Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed maintains that the Boko Haram terrorist group has been badly degraded by the Nigerian Military.
This is in spite of incessant attacks and killings in parts of the North East, especially Borno State.
The Minister gave the statement at a press conference where he also said that the group’s activities are acts of cowardice especially the recent killing of not less than 43 rice farmers.
The farmers had their throats slit while attending to their rice produce about 20 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital.
Lai Mohammed said that the recent killings did not reflect the huge gains already made against the insurgents by the military.
He added that the terrorists group is only clinging to straws considering that they have been badly degraded by the Nigerian military.
According to him, “on the killing of farmers in Borno, I want to say it is an act of cowardice and savagery by a group of deranged terrorists and it does not reflect th progress being made by the military against Boko Haram.
“The modus operandi of a losing terror group is to go after soft targets in order to stay relevant.
“It’s not only Boko Haram that does that. In 2019, Al-Shabab attacked DusiD2 Complex in Nairobi, Kenya, killing more than 20.
“Similarly, the Peshwar school massacre of December 6 2014 in Pakistan, carried out by 6 gunmen affiliated with Terhik-i Taliban Pakistan, left about 150 people dead, most of them students.
“The truth is that Boko Haram is badly degraded and can only carry out cowardly attacks like the one against defenceless farmers over the weekend.”
