The traditional ruler of Iguruland in the Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos State, King Buhari Oloto is dead.
He died at the age of 80 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
The monarch died about 10 months after his installation in a ceremony held on the 2nd of September, 2020. He was the first Oba of Iguruland.
King Buhari was a well known socialite but his installation was rejected by some members of his community.
Some indigenous of the kingdom led by Mutalubi Ayinde Kadiri disputed his installation and recognition by the Lagos State Government.
He insisted that the matter was still in pending in court.
Kadiri argued that the Appeal Court had, on the 30th of August, issued an injunction against the installation.
In the vein, another native of Iguruland and member of the Iguru Royal family, Owolabi Irawo condemned the decision of the Lagos State government in endorsing the late king.
According to him, “It is surprising to see Lagos State Government crown our opponent, Buhari Oloto. We have been on the case for over 14 years, the matter is in the Appeal Court.”
Surulere is a residential and commercial Local Government Area located on the mainland of Lagos in Lagos State.
