The Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige says three of his biological children are in public schools in Nigeria even if two of them are American citizens.
This is besides 15 other children that he put on scholarship. According to him, he is “a very big stakeholder in the public school system.”
The labour Minister says he has nothing against the university lecturers’ preferred payment system, UTAS.
According to him, UTAS is a home grown system that he wants to see work because it will contribute to saving Nigeria’s foreign exchange unlike IPPIS.
He said that ASUU president should “not come here and call me a conspirator because I am more nationalistic about the public universities than even him and his members, I am !”
Ngige added that most of the ASUU members have their children in private schools.
ASUU on its part advises Nigerians to expect a positive outcome from the ongoing meeting.
Another meeting is scheduled to begin today after several adjournments and many months of strike.
Nigerian university students are, unfortunately, not impressed with the apparent compromise.
According to them, #ASUU requested a N500 billion funding for the tertiary institutions. The union has wasted 8 months of their lifetime only to settle for N65 billion.
They believe that a labour union by the working youths would make a better impact than ASUU.
