No less than twenty affiliate unions of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have so far joined the nationwide strike called by the Organized Labour.
The leaders of the unions directed their members to comply fully with the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) directive to embark on the indefinite strike, which began Monday midnight.
After the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the labour unions on Monday, November 13, 2023, in Abuja, Nigeria’s organized labour resolved to embark on the strike to protest the attack on the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State.
The development resulted from the Federal Government’s alleged failure to address issues affecting workers, such as the minimum wage, insecurity, corruption, and poor governance.
The union leaders allege some demands, which the government failed to address following the recent crisis in Imo that resulted in the assault of Ajaero and other members of the labour unions.
