Four days after a major catastrophe in most parts of Nigeria and Lagos in particular, clean-up of the streets begins.
Lagos State businesses, groceries, electronics and raw edibles markets were vandalised, looted, razed by arsonists and debris scattered along highways and street corners.
The Novare Fitness Club, Sangotedo, Lekki led the way. The team came out as early as 6:30am, Saturday, 24th of October to clean the popular Monastery Road.
The group uses the road, the Monastery gate as well as the Novare Shopping Mall parking lot for their daily fitness exercises.
There is an Okada park at the entrance of the road. The riders suspended their business for at least 2 hours to join the fray.
The indigenes of the Sangotedo and its environs also identified with the noble venture and joined to keep the road clean.
Coach Graham Lawal thanked everyone who sacrificed their early morning routines to join in the clean-up.
In his remarks, Lawal said:
“I couldn’t say this more simply..many thanks to everyone who showed up for the clean-up excercise this morning.
“I couldn’t be prouder for the leadership and strong resolve shown by everyone. From the okada drivers, to the area guys, to fellow runners on the road who just joined in to help get the job done.
“Lastly, we also send out a big shout-out to Henry, Charity, Roxy, John , Obi, Oba and others i have failed to mention for contributing drinks, and other refreshments.
“We appreciate y’all, as well as our members who supported this cause in absentia.
“We didnt set to publicise this, even though some news about this will of course trend on some social media platforms. We just wanted to give back to our street and the neighbourhood that has provided shade and shield for our daily workouts all these years.
“..Power to the people and Glory be to the Lord for giving us strength to achieve this great feat!!!”
