Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has promised Nigerians that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will be completed in the first quarter of 2022.
Fashola said this during a radio interview with ‘Bond FM’ today, Sunday the 28th February.
He said that the delayed completion of work is due to the inability of the government to completely shut the road down.
While appealing to road users to be patient with government, the Minister said that 80 kilometres of the 127 kilometres has been completed.
According to him, “As we speak, 80km has been completed. Some parts of the road used today have been completed.
“We cannot shut the road totally. The number of vehicles passing the road is not less than 40,000.
“We cannot shut Lagos-Ibadan road like that. The road should be completed in 2022. The construction will end in 2022.
“The Third Mainland Bridge is faster because we had the opportunity of shutting it down totally.
Construction and rehabilitation of the Lagos – Ibadan Expressed began in 2013 when it was awarded to 2 contractors.
While Julius Berger is constructing the Ojota, Lagos to Sagamu interchange, RCC is responsible for the Sagami interchange to Ibadan stretch.
