Chairman, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr Ibrahim Musa has assured rail passengers that the Lagos – Ibadan railway line will become functional for commercial use by the 1st of December.
He said that the trains will make stopovers at the Laderin – Abeokuta Train Station.
The development, according to Musa will significantly reduce the constant traffic jam at the Lagos – Shagamu – Ibadan expressway considering that the trains will come with both human and cargo carriage compartments.
Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo expressed satisfaction at the quality and level of work already done.
He said that the State Government plans to add more stopover cities along the railway corridor. The aim is to develop existing communities and maximise the economic benefits that come with rail transportation.

The stations are part of the ongoing Federal Government Lagos – Abeokuta – Ibadan railway modernisation project.
When inaugurated, the new railway stations will herald economic development to the relevant cities.
The commissioner added that government will also ensure the security of rail transportation with a view to protecting lives and property.
