The Governor of Lagos State has announced that schools will re-open in September after months of lockdown due to the covid19 pandemic.

The governor made the announcement during his regular briefing on the state’s covid19 status. According to him, tertiary institutions will will re-open as from the 14th of September.

The tentative date for the re-opening of primary and secondary schools is set for the 21st of September.

Sanwo-Olu however, added that “this decision is not cast in stone and is subject to review of our ongoing modelling and what procedures comes out from the Ministry of Health.”

The governor said his decision is based on the fact that the number of new infections continue to decline. He added that restaurants are now permitted to open for in-dining services. However, the minders are to ensure that they do not admit more than 50% of usual capacity.

He said that a review of the decisions will be done in September to ascertain wether event centres, bars, night clubs cinemas, beaches and similar public places can re-open for business.

When asked if the 10:00pm curfew directed by the Federal Government will continue, Sanwo-Olu responded that it will adding that “these are challenging times for all of us.” 

With cautious optimism, the governor reminded Lagosians that the state continues to be the epicentre of the nation’s #COVID19 pandemic the current decline in infections notwithstanding.
