News - Women's Perspective

The Lagos State government has suspended five female students of Oreyo Senior Grammar School Igbogbo, Ikorodu for smoking Shisha.

The students were caught in a viral video last week, smoking the hard drugs while in school uniform.

The video attracted the ire of Nigerians home and abroad who insisted that the students and their parents be sanctioned.

Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the development and disclosed that the Ministry of Education and Youth Development is handling the case.

Wahab added that government has also ordered the rehabilitation of the students with immediate effect.

According to him, “Appropriate steps are being taken to address the issue with the aim of preventing future occurrence in the state.

“The appropriate ministry is already intervening. You see why the role of parents is so critical ? We can’t leave everything to the government and school. This is heart wrenching.”

Meanwhile, Nigerians former Aviation Minister and a parent, Femi Fani-Kayode blames the parents of the students and laments that they are sadly, “a wasted youth, a destroyed future.”
