The Lagos State Government, yesterday, reviewed the land use charge, canceled the 2018 land use act law and reverted to the pre-2018 rates and method of valuation.
The Land Use Charge Law was repealed and amended by the Aknwunmi Ambode administration. The development received widespread condemnation from residents as well as stakeholders.
The latest review was announced at the State House, Alausa by the Commissioner for Finance, Dr Rabiu Olow and the Information and Strategy Commissioner, Gbenga Olowo during a press briefing.
The Commissioners said the 2020 Land Use Charge was a fallout of several stakeholder meetings and in accordance with the agitations of residents. It was also a measure to reduce the financial pressures faced by residents.
According to Olowo, “still on reductions, another major sector that had its charge reduced is the agricultural sector, which annual rate for Agricultural land was reduced form 0.076% to 0.01%. This is an 87% reduction from the old rate.”
A new incentive for stakeholders is the re-introduction of 15% early payment discount. It has been further reviewed to 25% for those who pay before the due date. The review is a special #COVID19 incentive.
Speaking further on the Lagos Land Use Charge, Olowo added that “Unlike in the 2018 law, pensioners now include retirees from private and public institutions in the state or any person that has attained the age of 60 years and has ceased to be actively engaged in any activity or business for remuneration, exempting their properties from paying land use charge as well.
“Furthermore, the LUC payment can now be made online via https://Lagos.ebs-rcm.com. Payment can also be made using USSD code to any of our designated banks with the appropriate code.”
