After last night’s Lagos youth Massacre, in the very early of this morning, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says that there are no records of fatalities.
He also has stated that the genocide unleashed on Lekki Toll Gate peaceful protesters was perpetrated by “forces beyond our direct control.”
The governor undertook visits to victims being treated at various hospitals in Lagos, some of whom according to him have been discharged.
He added that beyond making official statements, he had to see to “the welfare of the victims of this very sad event.”
According to him a few victims are in critical conditions and need urgent surgery. He added that he will see to the fact that they get the best medical care.
Lagos State Governor’s full statement:
“This is the toughest night of our lives as forces beyond our direct control have moved to make dark notes in our history, but we will face it and come out stronger. I’ve just concluded visits to hospitals with victims of this unfortunate shooting incident at Lekki
“It has taken me this long to make a statement because I have to prioritize the welfare of the victims of this very sad incident.
As of 03:52 am, the Governor reported that:
“There are currently 10 patients at the Gen Hospital, 11 at Reddington and 4 at Vedic; with mild to moderate levels of injuries while 2 are receiving intensive medical care. 3 patients have been discharged & we will continue to monitor and ensure all patients get the best care.
“As the Governor of our state, I recognize the buck stops at my table and I will work with the FG to get to the root of this unfortunate incident and stabilise all security operations to protect the lives of our residents.”
The Governor also gave a televised broadcast on the Lagos youth massacre where he appealed to the youths to give peace a chance.
He directed that flags be flown at half mast for the next 3 days in honour of all those affected by the killings.
