A legal practitioner, Kabir Akingbolu Esq has demanded the immediate refund of illegal and unconstitutional salaries and allowances earned by Festus Keyamo (SAN), as former Minister of State for Labour and Employment.
Akingbolu sent a letter to Keyamo, warning him that failure to comply with the demand would result in legal action to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute him for fraudulently enriching himself with taxpayers’ money.
Additionally, Akingbolu intends to seek a court order to have Keyamo’s name removed from the government’s records as a former minister.
The demand follows Keyamo’s recent remarks during a valedictory session presided over by President Muhammad Buhari, where he criticized the position of “Minister of State” as a constitutional aberration that is not effectively functioning for those appointed to the role.
Keyamo expressed his discontent with the designation, stating that it is practically ineffective for many who hold the position.
The demand for the refund of salaries and allowances from Keyamo raises questions about the legality of the payments he received during his four-year tenure as Minister of State for Labour and Employment.
Akingbolu’s move highlights the need for accountability and transparency in government positions, emphasizing that public officials should not unlawfully enrich themselves using taxpayers’ money.
