Lawyers Embark on Strike Following The K!lling of A Colleague

Courts in Mgbidi, Oguta and Omumma areas of Imo State, on Thursday, shut down operations following the k!lling of their colleague, a popular lawyer in the State, Chinedu Nwowu.

According to Daily Post, the lawyer was said to have been double crossed and shot d3ad on Wednesday evening in Mgbidi, his hometown, by yet to be identified gunmen.

A source said some gun-wielding men forcefully blocked the victim while driving and shot him point-blank.

The development caused panic in the state as no reason had been disclosed for the gruesome m*rder.

Following the tragic development, the Orlu Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, where the deceased belonged to, announced that no court session would hold in Mgbidi, Oguta and Omumma axis of the state. They also announced an emergency meeting of the members.

A press release issued by Chukwuemeka Okoro, on behalf of the branch notified that the emergency meeting will hold at the High Court in Mgbidi.

The statement read; “following the gruesome murder of one of us, CHINEDU NWOWU last night in his town, Mgbidi, all lawyers of Oru/Oguta Forum are hereby notified of a crucial emergency meeting this morning by 10am at the High Court, Mgbidi.

“The Mgbidi, Oguta and Omumma High Courts will not sit today. Please, be punctual.”

The NBA Chairman of Orlu Branch, Ben Amukamara, told our correspondent that the members were already meeting at the Mgbidi High Court following the incident.

He insisted that no court in Oguta, Mgbidi and Omumma axis of the state would be sitting.

The spokesperson for the Police in the state, Henry Okoye, had yet to respond to an inquiry concerning the killing of the lawyer as of the time of filing this report.
