A tragic incident occurred on Monday night in Awka, Anambra State, when Dr. Fabian Osita, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), was shot dead by unidentified assailants.
The attack took place in the Aroma area as Dr. Osita was returning home from work.
According to reports, the assailants attempted to steal his vehicle, but when he resisted, they shot him in the head. The assailants then abandoned his body and drove away in his car.
Witnesses reported that the attack took place in a high-tension area, which has raised serious concerns about the escalating insecurity in the region. Dr. Osita, a lecturer in the Business Department at UNIZIK, was confirmed dead at the scene. The incident has left the university community in mourning.
The Chief Security Officer of UNIZIK, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the details of the attack and stated that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the institution is planning to protest the rising insecurity in Awka. Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder, with a call for anyone with information to assist the authorities.
The tragedy highlights the growing security challenges in the state, and the university community is left grieving the loss of one of its own.
