Lesotho Prime Minister has finally agreed to resign after the country’s opposition pressured him to quit over the brutal murder of his ex-wife.
Thomas Thibane was accused of conspiring with his mistress to murder Lipolelo Thabane with whom he was undergoing a divorce process at the time. Clues to his complicity were confirmed when communications between him and his enstranged, now deceased wife were found in her phone at the scene of the gruesome murder.
Lipelolo, 58 was killed 2 days before Thomas’s inauguration. Curiously, his then mistress, now wife Maesaiah, 43 stood in as First Lady at his swearing in ceremony.
She has been tried and found to be the major actor in the murder.
PM Thibane’s announcement of his resignation comes 1 week after a coalition party he formed was disbanded. This also ahead of May 22, when a new government is scheduled to be inaugurated.
His tenure would have ended in 2022 but he earlier hinted he would quite by July 31, 2020
However, while not stating the precise date of his final exit, the Prime minister told reporters that, “I decided to personally come and inform you that I am stepping down as Prime Minister of Lesotho.”
He added that “It is rather difficult to part ways with something that you have been accustomed to and leave people behind but we all have to leave at some point.
It is expected that Tribune who turns 81 on the 22nd of May, would officially make a pronouncement by Tuesday next week.
