Live Bullets Loaded in a Truck Spill on Onitsha Road

There was panic in Onitsha on Sunday as live bullets in many cartons, on Sunday, spilled on to the road and the drainage from a fallen truck.

Residents who are on their way to Sunday service were thrown into panic when they sighted the cartons with the live bullets.

They then raised an alarm prompting security agents to immediately move to the scene to condone off the area.

The incident involving the Mercedes 911 truck occurred along Awka Road and has put residents on high alert following growing tensions involving gunmen attacks in the Eastern part of the country.

Eyewitnesses say that the moment the truck skidded off the road and fell into a ditch, the driver and the conductor made frantic efforts to conceal the contents but, “they could not do much before daybreak when some police operatives arrived the accident scene only to discover the truck was laden with a consignment of live bullets.”

The Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the incident but said he has not been thoroughly briefed about the contents of the truck.
