Following the vacuum created by the resignation of U K Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and a long-drawn Conservative party contest, Liz Truss has emerged the country’s new leader.

Until now, the mother of 2 was U K’S Foreign Minister. In the race to the top job, she beat Rishi Sunak, the former Finance Minister with the result announced a few hours ago.

Members of the Conservative party voted Truss with about 57% leaving Sunak with 42.6%.

The new Prime Minister certainly has huge challenge ahead with cost of living and inflation crisis soaring in the country and elsewhere in Europe.

It is expected that she hit the ground running to deal with the issues especially the energy bills that are forecast to rise even higher in the fall.

Political and economic watchers have been analysing Truss’s political history and her campaign promises to ascertain where she might be taking the country.

This is more so as standard of living is is expected to plunge further while analysts still struggle to get a grip on the economic cost of Covid-19 pandemic as well as the fallout of the Brexit.

About Truss:

47-year-old Truss was born into a family that would arguably be described as a left-wing household. Her father was a mathematician and her mother a nurse.

Reports say that it was while studying for a degree in philosophy and economics (a common course for British politicians) at Oxford that she switched over to the Conservative Party.

The new Prime Minister is married to an accountant, Hugh O’Leary in 2000 and has 2 teenage daughters with him.

Within a decade, she went full blast into politics, attempted twice and failed to be elected as a Conservative Member of Parliament.

In 2010, she finally succeeded in becoming the MP for South Norfolk which remained her constituency until her successful election as British Prime Minister.
