South South Leader, Elder Statesman and former Federal Commissioner For information In the Yakubu Gowon administration, Chief Edwin Clark has blasted Mamman Daura, for his stance on Nigeria’s zoning policy.

Mamman Daura had said there was absolutely no need for zoning in Nigerian in the first instance. Chief Clark told Mamman Daura to stop making a fool of himself as he lacked the competence and qualification to give any advise on Nigeria’s policy direction.

The Northern leader had given his thoughts on the sensitive issue of zoning and rotation of Nigeria’s presidency. According to Daura, priority should be given to competence rather than zoning or rotation with regard to the leadership of the nation come 2023.

Speaking in an interview on BBC Hausa, Daura said that “this turn-by-turn, it was done once, it was done twice, and it was done thrice… it is better for this country to be one…it should be for the most competent and not for someone who comes from somewhere.”

Unimpressed with Daura’s opinion, Chief Clark blasted him saying that he is not known to have held any political appointment to qualify him as Political adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking further, Chief Edwin Clark said in a statement titled “Who is Mamman Daura Fooling” Chief Clark said “this morning, Wednesday, 29th July, 2020, I listened to the various comments by the electronic media, particularly the interesting discussion on Arise Morning Show anchored by Reuben Abati and his colleagues.

I have known Mamman Daura for very many years, since the time he was Deputy Editor of the New Nigeria Newspaper when his friend, the late Mallam Adamu Chiroma was Editor.

“Mamman Daura later became the Editor when Adamu Chioma was appointed Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The Newspaper became very popular during the trial of Andrew Obeya, a prominent public servant. Mamman Daura was not a politician.”

Wondering why Mamman Daura has taken up a permanent residency at the Aso Rock Villa, and acting as the chief adviser to the president, Chief Clark said in his statement that:

“Mamman Daura has never held any notable political appointment to qualify him to be a political adviser to Mr Presient, Muhammadu Buhari on the affairs of Nigeria, which entitles him (Mamman Daura) to have permanent accommodation/residency at the Ayo Villa with his family, where politicians go to him to lobby for political appointments.”
