Exequiel Hinojosa from Chile became a millionaire overnight after discovering his late father’s old bank passbook in the garbage. The government reimbursed him $1.2 million after a legal battle.
Some events feel nothing short of a miracle. This was precisely what happened to the man who became a millionaire overnight thanks to an old piece of paper.

Almost everyone has small pieces of paper scattered around their homes, sometimes under the bed, sometimes under the sofa, or even appearing as garbage throughout the house. However, it’s rare for a seemingly worthless piece of paper to change someone’s life. This is what occurred for a person, whose house contained a piece of ‘garbage’ that brought him a fortune.
This incident happened to a man called Exequiel Hinojosa, a resident of Chile, who had never imagined that 10 years after his father’s death, he would receive his blessings in this manner.
Discovery Of A Lifetime:
Hinojosa’s father had deposited about Rs 1.4 lakh in the bank in the 1960s-70s, intending to buy a house with that money. He passed away and no family member knew about this money.
Hinojosa found the 62-year-old passbook while cleaning in the house. The bank associated with the passbook had long been closed down. Initially, it seemed the passbook would not benefit Hinojosa at all. However, his eyes caught the words ‘State Guarantee’ on the passbook. This meant that if the bank failed, the government would return the money. Hinojosa hoped that the government would reimburse the funds.
When he requested the money, the government initially refused. Hinojosa then pursued a legal battle. Eventually, the court ordered the government to return the money to Hinojosa with interest. Consequently, the government agreed to pay back $1.2 million (Rs 10,27,79,580), making him a millionaire overnight.
