A man is reported to have fled his home to the police station to beg to be detained in order to stay away from his wife.

Italian media report that the 30-year-old former prison inmate who hails from Albania, went to the police station over the weekend to appeal that he gets incarcerated again.

The man disclosed that he could no longer stay in the same house with his wife and begged that his request be granted.

He insisted that he preferred to spend the rest of his wife in prison to complete his sentence, II Messagero reports.

His request was granted and he subsequently got transferred to prison from his home in Guidonia, Italy.

He was detained at the police station when he went to plead his case as he had broken the terms of his house arrest.

According to Captain Francesco Glacomo Ferrante of the Tivoli Carabinieri, the prisoner had been under house arrest for drug crimes for some months before going to the police station on Saturday night.

The man had served most of his prison term but in line with his plea, he would spend the rest in jail instead of his home.
