The All Progressives Congress (APC) Osun State has suffered huge losses as many of its members defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the state gubernatorial election.
Osun State is set to elect the next Governor as the incumbent, Gboyega Oyetola‘s current tenure elapses soon.
The gubernatorial election according to the state timetable will take place on July 16, 2022.
In what is an obvious welcome development, the opposition PDP which has started intense campaigns to wrest power from the APC, received a boost after it announced at Ile-Ife that it received a large number of APC members into the party during the weekend.
The opposition party in the Ife zone said the defectors were led by Kayode Ogundele, Professor Wale Oladipo, and the party Chairman, Ademola Adeleke Campaign Council who assured that none of them will regret their action.
Prof. Oladipo who promised that the party was going to set-up the next government in the state, lampooned the APC from the federal level, accusing it of ruining the country.
Oladipo added that the defection of the APC members to the PDP in Osun was a message that their time is over in the State.
He said: “We cannot continue like this. Collectively, we must be ready to send these scavengers out of our dear State.
“By the grace of God, PDP is going to win the forthcoming election in Osun State.”
In his remark, the campaign council chairman also thanked the leaders for their steadfastness and courage to declare for the PDP.
Speaking on their decision, Ogundele who led the decampees said joining PDP was borne out of the conviction that it is the only party that can give people of Osun the needed change they deserved.
