A report from the Sun highlights how the President of the Indigenous Igbo Youths Congress (IIYC), Chief Mayor Echefu has condemned the APC’s alleged aggression towards Igbo people during the previous year’s election in Lagos and Imo State, highlighting instances of violence, disappearances, and unjust treatment.

Echefu mentioned the case of Chinwe Onumaegbu, a missing Labour Party youth leader from Orlu, Imo State, as well as the imprisonment of the Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos, who had spoken out against attacks on Igbo properties.

The youth leader contrasted these situations with the close ties between the government and individuals like MC Oluomo, who threatened violence against Igbo people, and Bayo Onanuga, known for promoting hateful rhetoric against the Igbo community.

According to Mayor Echefu, “Look at how the APC attacked Igbo both in Lagos and in Imo during the last year’s election. In Orlu, Imo State, a Labour Party youth leader, Chinwe Onumaegbu was attacked, up till now, nobody knows where he is.

Look at the Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate, Lagos. His offence was warning against the attacks and the destruction of Igbo properties in Lagos during the 2023 elections and he is still in prison, while MC Oluomo, who threatened to annihilate the Igbo in Lagos, is there in Abuja with the president (Tinubu). The likes of Bayo Onanuga, who were promoting hate and incendiary speeches against the Igbo are in the government.”
