Melaye Refreshes Memory over Kenya’s Annulled Presidential Election (video)

As Nigeria prepares for the legal battle that is set to commence over the outcome of the just-concluded presidential elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the 25th of February, reactions have begun trailing the latest social media post made by former Kogi Lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye.

He shared a video from a historic court judgment that was given in Kenya several years ago.

In September 2017, a 6-man panel of Supreme Court Justices in Kenya annulled the presidential election supposedly won by the incumbent, Uhuru Kenyatta, after the nation’s electoral umpire was said to have failed to follow its own constitutional guidelines for electronic transmission of polling results.

Quite interestingly, the court ordered a fresh election within 60 days of annulling the first one.

After the 2nd exercise, President Kenyatta lost to his closest rival, Raila Odinga on the ballots.

Taking to his verified social media pages, Melaye shared videos of the historic court ruling.

Melaye, who is a spokesman of the Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, stated that the world is now watching the Nigerian judiciary to see how it will handle the petitions against the result of the presidential election conducted two weeks ago.

As expected, Senator Melaye’s post has drawn quite a flurry of reactions from Nigerians online as many trooped to the comments section to air their opinions.

While some persons agree with the former Kogi Lawmaker, others, however, insist that the Nigerian justice system cannot be compared to that of Kenya.
