The Nigerian Military and the Police have foiled an attempt by bandits to kidnap at least 307 students in Kaduna State.

Reports say that the bandits stormed the Government Science Secondary School, Ikara in the early hours of Sunday, 14th March.

Their efforts were however, hindered as the students activated an alarm system issued by the military who arrived promptly at the school premises and engaged the kidnappers.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan disclosed the development to newsmen on Sunday.

He also said that all 307 students of the school are safe.

According to him, “The attempted kidnap was foiled. Fortunately, the students utilised the security warning system and were thus able to alert security forces.

“The security forces comprises the Nigerian Army and the Police with some security volunteers moved swiftly to the school to engage the bandits, the military and police are currently trailing the bandits.”

The latest attempted kidnapping comes 2 days after several students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Afaka, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State were also kidnapped.

Reports say that the bandits were heading to a secondary school but diverted to the College of Forestry when they learnt that security had been beefed up at their target location.
