The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye on Wednesday, visited the Lead British International School, Abuja where videos of brutal bullying of school mates were recorded and shared on social media.
Ohaneye was at the school premises for an emergency stakeholders’ meeting over the viral videos of bullying of students by their colleagues.
In attendance were some parents of the victims, representatives of the Parents’ Teachers’ Association, concerned members of the public, lawyers and some members of staff of the school.
During the meeting, one of the victims of the incidents, Namtira Bwala revealed how she was slapped several times at different locations by her school mate.
Her father demanded justice against the school as well as the aggressor. Another parent of one of the male victims demanded justice for her son, while other stakeholders requested that the school be shut down immediately.
Responding, Uju Kennedy Ohaneye affirmed that the school be held responsible for the lack of supervision of the children in their care. She was taken aback by the absence of CCTV cameras at every part of the school and reassured members of the public that justice will be served in this case.
For her, it will serve as a note of warning to other schools to take charge of the children in their care. She also reassured Namtira Bwala that adequate steps will be taken to ensure she gets the justice she deserves.
