The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education has given conditions for the re-opening of tertiary institutions in the country.
Minister of Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba gave the details today during the Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in the country by JAMB.
According to Nwajiuba, “while we look forward to easing the lockdown which will ultimately lead to the re-opening of our campuses, I urge all the heads of institutions not to wait till the announcement on re-opening before putting in place, all necessary measures in compliance with the protocols and advisories of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).”
All institutions must have:
- Hand-washing facilities
- Body temperature checks
- Body disinfections at all entry points to their major facilities including gates, hostels, classes, offices, etc
- The whole premises of each institution must be decontaminated
- All efforts must be geared toward maintenance of the highest level of hygiene
- Ensure social, physical distancing in class sizes and meeting spaces.
Schools were shut down across the country following the outbreak of the COVID19 pandemic. There have been agitations by private tertiary institutions to re-open but the government insisted on a cautious re-opening to avoid escalated infections.
