The Miss World 2021 pageant has been postponed after 23 of the contestants tested positive to the dreaded Covid-19.
The organisers said the decision on the global event was was taken due to the health and safety interests of contestants, staff, crew and the general public.
The pageant which was meant to hold in Puerto Rico has now been postponed to ensure the recovery of the affected contestants.
The finale will be rescheduled at Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot within the next 90 days, a statement issued on Thursday said.
“After meeting with the virologists and medical experts hired to oversee the Miss World 2021 event, and discussing with Puerto Rico Health Department, the decision has been made by the organisers of the event to postpone the globally broadcast finale at the Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot to be held within the next 90 days,” part of the statement read.
Miss World 2021 will be the 70th edition of the Miss World pageant to be held in first trimmester of 2022 at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Toni-Ann Singh of Jamaica will crown her successor at the end of the event.
