The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for ordering that all encroached grazing routes in Nigeria be recovered.
The President in response to an interview question on Arise News on Thursday directed the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami to begin the process of recovering land from persons who converted grazing routes to personal use.
He said the grazing routes were designated in the first republic when “Nigerians used to obey laws” but those routes have now been coveted.
The Acting Publicity Secretary of MACBAN, Adamu Toro said the encroached routes have been the main cause of crisis between herders and farmers in the country.
Toro added that most of the grazing routes have been taken over by lawless Nigerians, making it difficult for the herders to move freely with their animals.
MACBAN said that even if the President’s order is coming late, it would go a long way to address the present crisis situation in the country.
Adamu Toro also noted that the collapse of the local government system was one of the causes of the clashes between farmers and herders across the country.
According to him, “We thank Mr President for that and we do hope he will take further actions that will drastically reduce the present conflicts in the country.
