A trending video shows the moment an 8-year-old boy identified as Onyeka Umeh was rescued from a canal by men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Umeh was rescued from the very dirty, near stagnant deep canal at the end of Pastor Ojediran Street behind Oba’s Palace; Ejigbo, Lagos.
A statement released by Adeseye Margeret, director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the Ejigbo Fire Station received a distress call at about 15:20.hours that Umeh and a friend of his had gone picking pet bottles around the canal.
The rescue team was then guided to his sinking spot by his companion who raised the alarm.
Adeseye advised Parents to keep children away from canals and other dangerous places as well as provide them with the much needed guidance to preserve their safety.
