These strengthening exercises condition muscles, tendons, bones and cartilage so that they can better tolerate the stress of walking and certainly, running.

Today’s exercises, according to Dr Celestine, work the muscles that support your hip, knee and ankle joints. He says they help to strengthen your legs in a way that has a functional carry-over to your daily physical activities. He recommends doing this routine two or three times a week.

When you do, ty to go six to eight repetitions. This helps mimic the stress placed on the body when you do your normal physical activities.

However, make sure you don’t try to do too many repetitions in the early weeks. As you do more Joints workout programmes, take your time to adapt and complete the exercises with good form.
