The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday, issued an order of interim forfeiture of 40 landed properties belonging to the embattled Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu,.
Ekweremadu is currently in custody in the United Kingdom following an alleged organ trafficking and modern slavery case.
The interim forfeiture order includes 10 of Ekweremadu’s properties in Enugu, 3 in the United States of America (USA), 2 in the United Kingdom (UK), 1 in Lagos, 9 in Dubai, and 15 located in the Federal Capital Territory.
The trial Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order following an ex-parte motion marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/1242/2022 filed and moved by Ibrahim Buba on behalf of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ruling on the motion, the Judge ordered EFCC to publish the interim forfeiture order of the properties in a national daily within 7 days from the date the order was given.
Justice Ekwo adjourned till December 5, 2022, for a report on objections from members of the public regarding the properties.
Ekweremadu and his wife are standing trial in the United Kingdom over allegations of organ harvesting to save their critically ill daughter who needs a kidney transplant.
