A mother of 5 in Mowe area of Ogun State has been arrested by police operatives for setting her 10-year-old daughter ablaze.
The suspect, Aisha Tijani, on the 20th of March, allegedly poured petrol on the little girl and set her on fire.
The police quickly responded to a distress call by a neighbour identified as Moroof Ayinde. According to him, the woman got annoyed because the victim took a phone that was seized by her mother from one of her siblings and handed it over to sibling.
The DPO of Mowe Division, CSP Folashade Tanaruno immediately mobilised his team to the scene with the detectives and got the suspect arrested.
The victim, who had been badly burnt was rushed to a nearby hospital from where she was referred to Olabisi Onabanjo teaching hospital for proper medical attention.
On interrogation, the suspect, who claimed to have been separated from the father of the children, explained to the police that she didn’t know what came over her when she was carrying out the wicked act.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation.
