Mother with 2 Blue-Eyed Daughters Rehabilitated

Stories from the heart

A Kwara State mother with 2 blue-eyed daughters, Risikat Azeez who was abandoned by her husband has been rehabilitated by kind-hearted Nigerians.

In a video that went viral a few days ago and posted by a concerned student, Risikat said she was abandoned by society and her husband, Abdul-Wasiu Omo-Dada in particular.

According to her, their only offence is the colour of their eyes. First Lady of War State, Olufolake Abdulrazaq also promised to assist the mother and her daughters.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare also promised to give scholarships to the 2 children. According to the mother of 2, none of them has been to school since they were born because of hardship.

Other well meaning Nigerians have visited the squalid home where she lived with her daughters  and refurbished it. Others promised to relocate them to a more habitable residence devoid of depression.

The home has become a Mecca of sorts as NGOs, kind-hearted individuals and groups, camera men, make-up artists and clothing lines flock the place to get pictures of the unique women.

Speaking about their unique eyes, the Mother with blue-eyed Daughters said in Yoruba, “I was born with these eyes and I also gave birth to my children with the same pair of eyes.

“Since I was born, I have never had any challenge with my eyes. I have never been to the hospital due to any discomfort. I thank God.

“No one had these set of eyes before me in my family, both from my mother and my father’s side. I’m the first to have these kind of eyes. And when I started bearing children, they also have it and I did not regret that I have these set of eyes with my children.

“As a young girl, I was taken to the hospital for medical examination and came back home with many gifts because the doctors said they liked my eyes. They also said there was nothing wrong with it.

“My husband, Abdul-Wasiu Omo-Dada is very aware of the condition of my eyes and loved me for who I am. Things started getting bad when I had my first child and later my second child.

Risikat lamented that her husband “totally changed and he would shut me up and walk out on me whenever I tried to start a conversation with him.

“His parents even told him, ‘will you keep on giving birth to children with this kind of eyes ?’

“He changed to the extent that he would leave home for a whole week before coming back home. There was no food and no provision that I had to go to my parents’ house to feed.

“My parents later asked me to leave his house. Since I left till now, he has not shown up to ask why I left or ask after me, she added.”
