Africa’s biggest telecom company, MTN is making big changes as it rebrands from a telecom to a tech company and changes its logo and slogan at the same time.
Effective February 27, the big process will have the company change its catchphrase from “Everywhere you go” to “Y’ello.”
The new logo is already conspicuous and imposing at its head office address on N1 Freeway.
MTN has taken on a streamlined blue on yellow logo instead of the former distinctive white, yellow and red letters on a blue oval-shaped sign.
“MTN” is written in basic block letters on a yellow background, with an oval created in a blue outline around the characters.
On the same yellow background, “Y’ello” is written in stylized white letters.
While the rebranding has begun outside of telecom company’s Johannesburg headquarters, it will be replicated across the world.
MTN chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer Nompilo Morafo said the new look aligns with their evolution from a telecommunications company to a technology company.
She confirmed to TechCentral that the new brand will launch on February 27.
The new branding is part of the group’s “Ambition 2025” plan, which aims to create “leading digital platforms for Africa’s progress,”.
According to Wikipidea, “MTN Group Limited, formerly M-Cell, is a South African multinational mobile telecommunications company, operating in many African and Asian countries.
“Its head office is in Johannesburg. As of December 2020, MTN recorded 280 million subscribers, making it the 8th largest mobile network operator in the world, and the largest in Africa.
“Active in over 20 countries, one-third of the company’s revenue comes from Nigeria, where it holds about 35% market share.“
